Battistero degli Ariani

Ravenna

The Arian Baptistery was built by the Gothic King Theodoric (493-526), like the Baptistery of the ancient Arian Cathedral, which is today the Church of the Spirito Santo. He later reconciled with the Orthodox worship at the time of Archbishop Agnello, like the orator dedicated to the Virgin Mary. With its octagonal shape, the Abbey conserves precious mosaics, depicting the procession of the Apostles around a central medallion with the Baptism of Christ.

The Arian Baptistery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
