The Directorate-General of the Museums at ICOM Milan 2016

The ICOM 24th General Conference will take place in the MiCo Milano Congressi from the 3rd to the 9th of July 2016, and is organized with the support of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism. More than 3.500 museum professionals from over 130 countries are expected to attend the event.

Directorate-General of the Museums takes part in the event with an exhibition area and presents to the public two thematic workshops.

Museum Fair & Expo Forum | from 4 to 6 July

The Exhibition area of the  Directorate-General of the Museums, which can be visited in the Museum Fair & Expo Forum section, is an information and meeting point which offers insights on the main institutional activities, from the new National Museum System organisation to the promotion of the Italian museums abroad.

Conference and Case study | from 3 to 9 July

On the 4th of July, at 9.30 am, Minister Dario Franceschini intervenes in the opening ceremony of the ICOM Conference.

The Directorate-General of Museums presents two public appointments:

Case study 1 – A new organization for Italian Museums
Tuesday 5 July 2016 – 2.15-3.45 pm 

The workshop presents the changes introduced by the reform of the MiBACT, with specific reference to the new organisational set-up of the Italian museums. Peter Aufreiter, Director of Galleria Nazionale delle Marche and Marche Museum Complex, and Angela Tecce, Director of Calabria Museum Complex, will talk about the topic. Debate is opened by the Director-General of Museums, Ugo Soragni, and it is moderated by Marilena Pirrelli, deputy Department Head of Plus24-ArtEconomy24, expert in the field of the Economy of culture.

Case study 2 – Sleeping Beauty. The precious reserves of Italian Museums
Wednesday 6 July 2016 – 1.15 – 2.15 pm

The workshop presents the project “Sleeping Beauty”, whose aim is the promotion of the cultural heritage preserved in the Italian museums warehouses through the reinforcement of the capacity of building international relationships. The project is based on the concept of sharing partnership between the National museum system and museums and institutions abroad, through activities of research, conservation, restoration as well as promotion. The workshop will illustrate the first result of a focused survey: a database of the artworks kept in the Italian museums warehouses.

Cenacolo Vinciano | from 3 to 9 July 2016

During ICOM Milan 2016, Regional Museum Complex of Lombardy has planned an extraordinary opening of the Museum of the Cenacolo Vinciano: from the 3rd to the 9th of July, from 7.00 pm to 10 pm (last entrance at 9.45 pm).

Museum Feast | 2 and 3 July 2016

The Museum Feast will take place at the same time of the Conference, with extraordinary openings  and several initiatives proposed by hundreds of cultural places throughout Italy.
